Cork City Council with support from the Heritage Council has produced a colourful and informative booklet entitled “A Guide to Protected Structures in Cork City”. This publication is an action from the Cork City Heritage Plan 2007 – 2012.
Cork is a city which is steeped in history and heritage. This booklet highlights this built heritage and provides a practical introduction to Protected Structures in Cork City. In addition “A Guide to Protected Structures in Cork City” supplies general information and advice to members of the public, building owners and occupiers on a wide range of issues relating to Protected Structures. The publication also gives an insight into a selection of fascinating and special Protected Structures in Cork City and illustrates the special character and uniqueness of these historic structures.
Welcoming the production of this booklet the City Manager Joe Gavin said “I hope that this publication will clarify facts on what a protected structure designation means, how it is made and why, and what assistance is available to help owners and those entrusted with the care of this important element of the Heritage of Cork City”
The production of this booklet comes at a time when Cork City Council has allocated over €212,000 in Conservation grants to be used for the protection and enhancement of Protected Structures in Cork City.
Copies of “A Guide to Protected Structures in Cork City” are available at the Planning Desk, City Hall, Cork or by telephoning Aoife at 021 4924086 or emailing heritage@corkcity.ie
